According to the Department for Education, the highest ever number of students received A Level maths results, with entries up 3.7 per cent on the previous year, and more A and A* grades were awarded in the subject.

In a broader shift across sciences and technology, entries for A Level subjects in science, technology, engineering and maths increased by 3.7 per cent compared with the previous year. T Level completions reached almost 20,000 students, a rise of more than 65 per cent from the previous year, with a reported pass rate exceeding 90 per cent. Vocational technical qualifications in construction rose by nearly 20 per cent on the previous year, according to official data. More students were also accepted onto higher education courses, with 194,800 English 18-year-olds accepted into their first choice of university, up 1 per cent on the previous year.

The Department for Education characterised the results as demonstrating improved overall attainment. A Level C+ grades rose 2.7 percentage points compared with 2019, prior to the pandemic. The government stated that the growth in STEM and technical qualifications reflects increasing demand for skilled workers in sectors including construction.
