SERGIO GARCIA TO REJOIN DP WORLD TOUR AFTER LIV GOLF STINT

THU 13 AUG 2026 GOLF

Sergio Garcia has informed DP World Tour headquarters that he intends to take up membership with the circuit from the next season, the Spanish golfer announced. Garcia, who won the 2017 Masters, made his decision known well ahead of the November deadline for membership applications. His plan to return follows uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf's financial position, with Bloomberg reporting that potential investor BC Partners is seeking to lend rather than invest in the Saudi-backed league.

Garcia joined LIV Golf in 2022 and resigned his DP World Tour membership in 2023. His return became possible after LIV Golf announced plans to grant all its players NIL rights from the upcoming season, permitting them to compete on other professional tours simultaneously. Before formally rejoining, Garcia will compete in three DP World Tour events before the season concludes: the Omega European Masters, the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links, and the Open de España. He has previously won all three tournaments, with the Irish Open holding particular significance as it marked the start of his professional career in 1999.

The return underscores wider uncertainty among LIV Golf players regarding their futures as the league navigates financial and legal difficulties. One report indicates the DP World Tour is preparing to impose fines and suspensions on LIV Golf members in 2027, potentially forcing competing players to make final decisions about their touring status ahead of the Ryder Cup.
