JULIE ANDREWS CONFIRMS RETIREMENT FROM ACTING
Julie Andrews has stated she will not return for The Princess Diaries 3 and believes she is retired from acting. The actor said it was difficult to decline the offer, which came repeatedly throughout the previous year, but felt the project would succeed without her involvement. Director Adele Lim will helm the third installment of the franchise, set in the fictional kingdom of Genovia. Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Mia, with Robert Schwartzman and Chris Pine also returning.
Andrews' career has spanned over eight decades and included numerous accolades. The Princess Diaries franchise previously starred Andrews alongside Hathaway in the original films. Production of the third instalment was delayed to accommodate Hathaway's schedule for The Devil Wears Prada 2. According to reports, the intention is to film the sequel following completion of that project.
Andrews' decision marks a formal conclusion to her on-screen work after a lengthy career in film and television. No further casting announcements for The Princess Diaries 3 have been confirmed beyond the roles already assigned. The franchise will continue under new creative direction with the returning cast members.
