RASHEE RICE LABOURS IN CHIEFS TRAINING AFTER KNEE SURGERY

WED 12 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice participated in training camp drills last week following a knee procedure performed in May and a 30-day jail sentence for probation violation. According to a Chiefs reporter, Rice showed signs of difficulty during 11-on-11 exercises, particularly when executing directional changes and acceleration. The reporter noted uneven performance across repetitions, with some plays demonstrating Rice's usual ability whilst others appeared hampered by recovery from the procedure.

Rice spent the 2025 season limited to eight games, recording 53 catches from 78 attempts for 571 yards and five touchdowns. His catch rate of 67.9 per cent marked the lowest of his three-year NFL career, and his overall production represented the second-lowest of his professional tenure. A previous LCL injury and hamstring damage sustained in 2024, combined with a six-game suspension and lingering concussion symptoms, affected his performance throughout the year. Rice stated in a recent media session that he aimed to improve his involvement in plays regardless of whether passes were directed at him.

The knee surgery was intended to remove debris from Rice's right knee ahead of his jail term. Rice received court approval to undergo rehabilitation at Parkland Hospital during his 30-day incarceration. He has characterised his time in custody as a learning experience and a reality check.
