TURKISH CHAMPION TURHAN SIGNS WITH MVP, SETTING UP DUBOIS FIGHT
Elif Nur Turhan, the Turkish IBF lightweight world champion, has signed with Most Valuable Promotions as part of a strategic alliance between MVP and Matchroom Boxing. Turhan, 31, has won all 14 of her professional bouts, including eight by stoppage. The move brings a potential unification fight between Turhan and fellow MVP fighter Caroline Dubois closer to realisation. MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said the signing would allow the promotion to stage "some of the most exciting fights in boxing".
Turhan's move follows MVP's announcement last month of a partnership with Matchroom designed to create opportunities for female fighters across both rosters. The agreement allows fighters from each promotion to compete on each other's cards. Turhan joins Australian two-weight world champion Skye Nicolson in transferring from Matchroom to MVP. WBA lightweight champion Stephanie Han is also signed to MVP, strengthening the promotion's female boxing roster.
Dubois, a Londoner signed to MVP, will defend her WBC and WBO lightweight titles against American Amelia Moore on 29 August at an all-female card in Birmingham. MVP merged with the Professional Fighters League in July, bringing together a combined roster of more than 300 fighters across boxing and mixed martial arts. The series of signings and promotional alliances reflects growing investment in women's boxing at the highest level.
