TARON EGERTON REVEALS ESTRANGEMENT FROM FATHER

Welsh actor Taron Egerton has disclosed that he became estranged from his father several years ago after deciding to end their relationship. Speaking on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Egerton said he "pushed the ejector seat" on the relationship and has not seen his father since. He described how his relationship with his dad was "fairly functional" during his childhood but "became more difficult" as he grew older. Egerton said he still loves his father but believes they "don't work very well in terms of our relationship".

Egerton was born in Birkenhead and moved to Wales with his mother Christine after his parents divorced when he was two years old. He was raised in the Anglesey village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch until age 12, then moved to Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. His mother worked in social services whilst his father David ran a bed-and-breakfast near Liverpool. Egerton said he struggled during his first year of secondary school but found his "tribe" of friends after relocating to Aberystwyth. He acknowledged being "possibly a little more anxious" during his upbringing but described his mother as "a great mum" and said he never felt he wanted anything or missed anything.

Egerton said he has become "happier and more functional" by viewing others as trying their best, and that he now regards his father as "a guy who wanted to be a good dad". He emphasised that his overall upbringing was "amazing" and full of love, and stated he did not wish to present himself as a victim of his circumstances.
