RANGERS STRIKER CHERMITI OUT WITH ACL INJURY
Youssef Chermiti will be out of action for a significant period of time after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Rangers' 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian on Sunday. The 22-year-old Portuguese striker was injured following a jarring challenge that sent him into advertising boards. Rangers announced the injury via social media without specifying a return date. Chermiti has made 43 appearances for the club, including 30 starts, and scored 15 goals.
The injury comes shortly after Rangers manager Derek McInnes rejected an approach from Turkish champions Galatasaray for the striker. McInnes told BBC Scotland before kick-off that the club's valuation had not been met and that Chermiti would remain at Ibrox. Chermiti joined Rangers from Everton in September 2025, reportedly becoming the club's most expensive signing since Tore Andre Flo in 2000. The centre forward has represented Portugal at under-21 level.
The setback deprives Rangers of a key attacking player during what McInnes described as a period of team-building at the club. Rangers chairman indicated the club remains active in the transfer market, with up to five further signings targeted. The injury's severity will likely affect Rangers' forward planning for the remainder of the season.
