STUDY FINDS WOMEN'S BODY TEMPERATURE RISES WITH AGE

WED 03 JUN 2026 OTHER

A new study has found that women's core body temperature rises consistently between the ages of 18 and 42. Researchers identified the pattern across the age range but have not determined the cause. The finding adds a measurable variable to the existing body of knowledge about human thermoregulation. The mechanism driving the increase remains unknown.

Body temperature has long been treated as a stable biological constant, commonly cited as 37°C (98.6°F). Prior research has established that individual baseline temperatures vary across populations and over time. This study focuses specifically on the female body and tracks temperature change across a defined span of adult life. The study's data shows a consistent directional trend rather than random fluctuation across that period.

The findings raise questions about how body temperature is used as a baseline metric in clinical settings. Standard temperature thresholds for fever and hypothermia are applied broadly across adult patients regardless of sex or age. Researchers have not yet identified whether hormonal changes, metabolic shifts, or other physiological factors drive the observed rise. Further investigation is required to establish the cause and determine whether clinical guidelines should account for age-related temperature variation in women.
