INTEL ANNOUNCES $15 BILLION STOCK OFFERING TO FUND AI EXPANSION
Intel announced a $15 billion common stock offering on Monday to support what the company described as surging customer demand for artificial intelligence compute capacity. The chipmaker identified physical AI, purpose-built silicon and advanced packaging as major growth opportunities. According to Intel, the proceeds will fund corporate needs including capital expenditures and working capital requirements.
The offering includes a 30-day option permitting underwriters to purchase an additional $2.25 billion in common stock. Intel's move follows a period in which the company's share price rose substantially. Technology giants across the sector have significantly increased capital expenditure this year to support AI infrastructure development; Goldman Sachs estimated that technology companies' combined spending on AI infrastructure would reach $765 billion in 2024 and $1.2 trillion in 2025.
Intel's capital raise reflects broader investment patterns among major technology firms responding to demand for AI computing infrastructure. The company joins other megacap technology enterprises in allocating substantial resources to meet what it characterised as unrelenting infrastructure buildout requirements and increased compute capacity demands.
