MOURINHO REFUSES TO APOLOGISE TO CARNEIRO OVER 2015 DISPUTE
Jose Mourinho has refused to apologise to Eva Carneiro, the former Chelsea team doctor, over a dispute that occurred in 2015. The row took place during Chelsea's 2-2 draw against Swansea City on the opening day of the 2015/16 Premier League season, when Carneiro and then-chief physio Jon Fearn attended to injured player Eden Hazard during injury time. Mourinho stated that he would not offer an apology, saying "I always use my vocabulary when I'm not happy". He addressed the incident publicly for the first time in 11 years.
Mourinho expressed displeasure with his medical staff's decision to treat Hazard on the pitch, arguing that they should have understood the tactical implications of removing a player from play. He told reporters after the match that staff members "must be sure the player has a serious problem" before attending to them, and stated he was certain Hazard did not have a serious injury. Carneiro subsequently left football following the fallout from the incident. The two parties settled out of court following her dismissal from Stamford Bridge.
In the years since the 2015 dispute, Carneiro has resumed involvement in football in a professional capacity. Mourinho's refusal to apologise marks a significant moment in the long-standing disagreement between the two parties. The manager's public statement represents one of the few occasions he has directly addressed the matter with the media.
