NIEMANN WINS LIV GOLF NEW YORK; RAHM CLINCHES SEASON TITLE
Joaquín Niemann won the LIV Golf New York event on Sunday at Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey, finishing on 16-under par after firing a two-under 69 in the final round. The Chilean player won by three strokes from American Harold Varner III, extending his record to nine LIV Golf victories. Niemann met US President Donald Trump after the tournament. England's Lee Westwood and Zimbabwe's Scott Vincent tied for third place, seven strokes behind the winner.
Jon Rahm secured the season points title for a third consecutive year despite finishing tied for 41st in the New York event with a closing round of 76. The Spaniard, ranked 13th in the world, holds an unassailable 219-point lead over American Bryson DeChambeau heading into the final individual event of the season at Indianapolis in two weeks. Rahm won the season title last year without recording a single event victory; this year he has recorded two wins, in Hong Kong and Mexico, alongside four runner-up finishes.
Rahm described the year as positive despite his performance in New York. The LIV Golf season concludes with the team championship in Michigan from 27 to 30 August. The tour secured an unnamed lead investor for 2027 according to reports published four days ago.
