LUCAS DIGNE COMPLETES MOVE FROM ASTON VILLA TO PSG

SUN 09 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Lucas Digne has completed a transfer from Aston Villa to Paris Saint-Germain. The French left-back signed a contract with PSG, returning to the club more than a decade after his first spell there. PSG activated a release clause in Digne's contract worth £8.5m according to one report, though another source reported the fee as €7 million. Digne expressed satisfaction with the move, stating he was "very honoured" to return to Paris Saint-Germain and "really proud and very happy" at the opportunity.

Digne previously played for PSG between 2013 and 2015, making between 30 and 44 appearances during his first spell and winning domestic trophies. He subsequently played for Roma, Barcelona, Everton and Aston Villa, gaining experience across Europe's leading leagues. He joined Villa from Everton in 2022 and was part of the side that won the Europa League last season, Villa's first silverware since 1996. At PSG, Digne will provide competition for first-choice left-back Nuno Mendes as the club prepares for the upcoming season.

Digne is the third senior departure from Villa this season, following Morgan Rogers to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United. PSG, European champions, have won the Champions League in successive years according to one source. One report indicated Digne signed until June 2029, whilst another stated he had signed a three-year deal at the Parc des Princes; the reports differ on contract length.
