SUN 09 AUG 2026 CRICKET

Leicestershire missed the opportunity to secure knockout qualification in their final Group A fixture of the One-Day Cup, losing to Kent at Beckenham. Hamza Shaikh scored 93 and Ben Green added an unbeaten 57 to help Leicestershire reach 261-7, but Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond struck an unbeaten 133 to guide the home side to victory by six wickets with 15 balls remaining. The result leaves Leicestershire's progression uncertain, with their fate dependent on other matches in the group on Tuesday.

Leicestershire now share 16 points with Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and Surrey. Nottinghamshire lost to Gloucestershire, whilst Lancashire fell to Warwickshire in other Group A fixtures. Northamptonshire kept their qualification hopes alive by defeating Somerset by seven wickets, with Luke Procter scoring 85 in a partnership of 136 runs with captain Nathan McSweeney. In Group B, Middlesex advanced to the knockout stages following a win at Derbyshire, whilst Durham defeated Essex at Darlington, with Ben Stokes contributing 43 to a 20-run victory.

Four points separate the chasing pack from Leicestershire, with run rate also playing a role in determining who progresses. Kent travel to second-bottom Warwickshire in their final group match, whilst Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, Surrey and other contenders will complete their fixtures on Tuesday. Northamptonshire must beat Gloucestershire and rely on other results in their favour to maintain qualification hopes.
