FUGEES SET CUT SHORT AT LAURYN HILL FESTIVAL DUE TO VENUE CURFEW
The Fugees' headline performance at Lauryn Hill's Diaspora Calling! festival in Milton Keynes was cut short on Friday 7 August due to licensing restrictions at the venue. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean took the stage at 10pm BST but the show was forced to end at 11pm, when the National Bowl's licence required all performances to conclude. The pair attempted to address the crowd, but their microphones were switched off, and a message appeared on a giant on-stage screen stating the venue was legally required to finish at 11pm and could not continue beyond that time.
The set was scheduled to run for two hours and was to feature guest appearances from Tiwa Savage, Gunna and Little Simz. Hill's sons YG Marley and Zion Marley, grandsons of reggae icon Bob Marley, also performed at the festival alongside Erykah Badu and Giggs. Fans expressed frustration online following the abrupt conclusion, with some stating the early finish spoiled their overall experience of the event.
Wyclef Jean told one outlet: "We're really sad how it ended. We was just getting started, so we're hoping to continue next year." He added that the performance had generated strong audience energy and unity among attendees. 8-Bit News has sought comment from representatives of Diaspora Calling! regarding the incident.
