JASON DAY MISSES FEDEX CUP PLAYOFFS FOR FIRST TIME IN 18 YEARS

SAT 08 AUG 2026 GOLF

Jason Day failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs after missing the cut at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday, 8 August. Day recorded rounds of 71 and 73, falling short of the cut line by three strokes. The streak of 18 consecutive years in which Day had qualified for the playoffs ended with his finish of 75th in the standings. Day attributed his struggles to physical condition, stating that his body "has been really awful" this year.

The Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club serves as the final qualifying event for the FedEx Cup playoffs. The tournament offers a winner's share of $1.53 million from a total purse of $8.5 million, which has grown by $600,000 over the past two years. Day had withdrawn from two other events earlier this year: the 3M Open and the U.S. Open, citing a persistent back injury. He acknowledged in his reflection that maintaining the streak would have been meaningful, but accepted that circumstances can change.

The FedEx Cup playoffs themselves offer a $100 million pool to competing professionals, alongside the iconic silver trophy and a five-year PGA Tour exemption for the winner. Golfers who advance from the Wyndham Championship will also earn FedEx Cup points to strengthen their position in the playoff standings. Players who make the cut at the Wyndham Championship secure prize money, whilst those who miss the cut return empty-handed.
