MANCHESTER UNITED DRAW WITH PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN IN PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Manchester United drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in a pre-season friendly as manager Michael Carrick assessed his squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. Ibrahim Mbaye scored for Paris Saint-Germain after two minutes, before Bryan Mbeumo equalised for United in the 32nd minute. The match took place in Gothenburg. Mason Mount departed the pitch with an injury after 20 minutes of play.
Mount, a midfielder who joined United from Chelsea in 2023 on £150,000 per week wages, has experienced recurring injury difficulties during his time at the club. Since his arrival, he has made no more than 23 Premier League appearances in any single season and has contributed five goals across three campaigns. At Chelsea, Mount made over 30 league appearances in three of his four seasons and scored 27 goals in total.
United finished third in the previous season and will compete in the Champions League during the forthcoming campaign. Pre-season friendlies allow Carrick to evaluate squad fitness and tactical readiness before the league begins. Mount's injury represents a potential concern for the manager as he prepares for what the club describes as a testing competitive schedule.
