TUE 09 JUN 2026 CRIME

A man suffered serious injuries in a stabbing in north Belfast late on Monday evening. The Police Service of Northern Ireland received a call at approximately 10.30pm and officers attended the scene near the lower Antrim Road. The injured man, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital, where his condition is described as serious. He sustained significant injuries to his face, neck and back.

The PSNI arrested a man in his 30s, believed to be Somalian, on suspicion of attempted murder, and he remains in police custody. The scene outside an apartment complex in the lower Antrim Road area was cordoned off on Tuesday morning, with forensic markers visible on the ground. Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson urged members of the public not to reshare images or footage of the attack, which had been circulating online. North Belfast MP John Finucane said he had spoken with police and called on anyone with information to come forward and assist the investigation.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the attack as "sickening" and said he had no tolerance for violence on British streets. Democratic Unionist councillor Jordan Doran said residents had contacted him to express concerns about community safety following the incident. The PSNI investigation remains ongoing. Police have made no further arrests at this stage.
