LEIGH BEATS YORK IN SUPER LEAGUE PLAY-OFF CHASE
Leigh defeated York 22-14 in a Betfred Super League match, with the home side scoring four tries to secure victory. Josh Charnley and Joe Ofahengaue scored in the first half, giving Leigh a 12-10 lead at the interval. Andy Badrock and David Armstrong added further tries in the second half to extend the lead to 22-10. York's Joe Bennison scored a hat-trick across the match, with two tries in the first half and one with eight minutes remaining, but the Knights could not overcome Leigh's advantage.
Leigh's victory came whilst the side pursues a play-off position. Bennison's three tries represented a strong individual performance for York, who trailed throughout the second half. Cook converted three goals for Leigh, whilst Bennison converted one for York. James Vella refereed the fixture.
The result leaves both sides with defined positions in the competition standings. Leigh's four-try performance demonstrates attacking threat in their play-off push, whilst York's inability to capitalise on Bennison's individual scoring output cost them victory. The fixture concluded with Leigh comfortably managing the closing stages.
