ERIC BIENIEMY'S SON CALLED POLICE OVER FIREARMS TWO DAYS BEFORE SHOOTING

FRI 07 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Elijah Bieniemy called police two days before a shooting on 26 July to report that his parents were withholding his firearms, according to documents obtained via public records request. The 27-year-old man, calling from the Bieniemy family address, told authorities that his parents had made him surrender his weapons as a condition of living in the home. He stated that his parents refused to return the firearms when he requested them for use at a shooting range.

Elijah Bieniemy is accused of shooting his mother, Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. He faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. In his call to police, Elijah Bieniemy described himself as a certified UFC fighter and referenced holding a CPR licence.

A judge has ordered a mental evaluation for Elijah Bieniemy following a request from his public defender, who argued that he "appears to suffer from significant mental health issues" and "does not appear able to assist in his own defence at the present time." Mia Bieniemy was transferred out of intensive care following the shooting and continues to improve, according to the most recent available information.
