TROY AIKMAN REMAINS AT ESPN WHILE ADVISING DOLPHINS ON GM SEARCH

FRI 07 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Troy Aikman has decided to remain with ESPN whilst continuing in an advisory role with the Miami Dolphins, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback said. Aikman joined the Dolphins' front office in 2026 to assist the franchise in finding a new general manager following Chris Grier's departure from the position. He stated that he has "no plans to leave ESPN" and that his broadcasting commitments prevent him from taking on a more substantial role with the Dolphins.

Aikman said he accepted the Dolphins opportunity because he had long considered working in an NFL front office upon retirement from playing. He described the advisory position as allowing him to pursue this interest without compromising his broadcasting career. According to reporting, Aikman held no official title with the Dolphins and functioned as a resource for the organisation. The Dolphins sought an outside voice with established connections to assist in their search, which led the club to Aikman.

Aikman played a key role in the Dolphins' recruitment process, supporting Jon-Eric Sullivan as the franchise's new general manager. Aikman stated he remains engaged with the Dolphins whilst continuing his work at ESPN, where he is part of the network's NFL commentary coverage. His involvement marked a realisation of a long-held ambition to work within an NFL organisation's front office structure.
