HOLLY WILLOUGHBY DISCUSSES BODY INSECURITY IN NINETIES

FRI 07 AUG 2026

Holly Willoughby has discussed feeling insecure about her body during her teenage years in the nineteen-nineties, citing the prevailing beauty standards of that era. Speaking on her YouTube show Together, which launched last month, Willoughby explained that the dominance of supermodel Kate Moss as a cultural ideal made her feel uncomfortable with her own physique. She told comedian Joanne McNally during a segment featuring pink tracksuits that she felt pressured by the "Kate Moss waif" aesthetic that defined the decade. Willoughby stated that the nineties were "not her friend" because of these narrow beauty ideals.

Willoughby, who left This Morning three years ago after a long career in television, spoke candidly about her physical appearance and how it shaped her clothing choices. She explained that she prefers garments that emphasise her waist, which she described as her smallest feature, rather than other parts of her body. McNally responded by complimenting Willoughby's figure, though Willoughby rejected the praise. Reports describe her description of her body as having a "big bottom" or "big curvy bottom," depending on the account.

In earlier remarks to Prima magazine in 2018, Willoughby had stated that she avoided focusing excessively on her appearance to discourage eating disorders among her audience. She emphasised at that time that maintaining good health mattered more to her than achieving particular aesthetic standards. Willoughby's recent comments on YouTube represent a continuation of these broader reflections on body image and the influence of media beauty standards across different periods of her life.
