STUDENT OPENS FIRE AT THAI SCHOOL NORTH OF BANGKOK

FRI 07 AUG 2026 CRIME

A student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi school in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok, on Friday, according to Thai authorities. At least one teacher was killed and four other people injured in the incident, Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, the Nonthaburi provincial police commander, said. Among those injured were one teacher and three students. The suspected gunman killed himself, police confirmed.

Emergency photographs showed students leaving the school as ambulances attended to casualties. One person was visible on a stretcher outside an ambulance whilst another received medical attention. Debsirin Nonthaburi school had an enrolment of approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year, according to district authorities. A separate incident occurred in February when a teacher died and a student was injured after a gunman opened fire at a school in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand.

One report cited a different casualty toll, stating that seven people died and fifteen others were wounded. The discrepancy between accounts of the death toll and injury figures has not been reconciled by authorities at this stage. The incident marks another shooting at an educational institution in Thailand within recent months.
