ST HELENS TO FACE HULL FC IN DUBLIN SUPER LEAGUE FIXTURE
St Helens will play Hull FC in Dublin on 25 April 2027 as part of a Super League double-header, Saints chairman Eamonn McManus announced on Thursday evening. The match will take place at Laya Arena, a 20,000-capacity venue that is home to Leinster rugby union. Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors will play the day before, on 24 April, in what McManus said would be the first Super League fixture held in Ireland. St Helens and Hull FC have signed a formal partnership agreement to stage the fixture.
McManus told Sky Sports that the Sunday game would supplement the Saturday fixture between Warrington and Wigan. He stated the occasion would showcase rugby league to an Irish audience and create "a great weekend" for all four clubs. Hull FC chairman Andrew Thirkell said his club was "delighted" to participate and described Dublin as "the perfect destination" for away supporters. Thirkell added that the four clubs aimed collectively to "deliver something that we believe will be a tremendous spectacle both on and off the field".
The announcement represents the first time the Super League has scheduled fixtures outside Britain. McManus said the event would give rugby league exposure in Ireland, where the sport has a smaller following than in England and Australia. The double-header will take place during the 2027 season and forms part of efforts by the Super League to expand its reach beyond its traditional heartland.
