FORD LAUNCHES FATHOM ELECTRIC TRUCK AT $28,350
Ford has unveiled Fathom, a midsize electric truck priced from $28,350, marking the company's entry into the ultra-affordable EV market. The vehicle will launch in 2027, with a destination and delivery fee bringing the final price to $29,945. Ford confirmed the announcement on Thursday as part of its strategy to deliver affordable electric vehicles built on its new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.
The Fathom will be fully featured, distinguishing it from competing budget EVs. The base model includes a large, high-resolution touchscreen with integrated Apple Maps, power windows, and support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The truck will offer greater interior volume than a Toyota RAV4, an open bed, and a frunk. Ford's Blue Cruise hands-free driving system will be available as an optional extra service, currently priced at $2,495 for a one-time purchase or $495 annually.
Ford plans to achieve this price point through high-volume manufacturing using a new assembly approach. Vehicles built on the UEV platform will be assembled across multiple parallel production lines, enabling the company to reach a target price below $30,000. The Fathom represents Ford's response to rivals in the affordable EV segment and the company's stated "Model T moment" for electric vehicle manufacturing.
