NEWCASTLE APPOINT MATTHIAS JAISSLE AS HEAD COACH

THU 06 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Newcastle United have appointed Matthias Jaissle as head coach following Eddie Howe's departure from the club. Jaissle has stated that Newcastle possess a clear vision for the future. The appointment comes amid significant squad changes, with club captain Bruno Guimaraes reported to be close to joining Arsenal in a deal valued at £75 million.

Jaissle takes charge of a club undergoing summer upheaval in the transfer window. Guimaraes' potential move to Arsenal represents a substantial outflow of talent from midfield. The Brazilian midfielder has been a central figure at Newcastle in recent seasons. His departure would mark one of the club's most significant transfers of the window.

Newcastle have now confirmed their managerial succession plan following Howe's exit. Jaissle's appointment signals the club's intent to maintain competitive ambition despite losing key personnel. The new head coach will inherit a squad in transition as the club navigates summer recruitment and potential departures.
