MAN EXTRADITED FROM LATVIA CHARGED OVER SCHOOLBOY'S HIT-AND-RUN DEATH

THU 06 AUG 2026 CRIME

Dolars Aleksanders, a 23-year-old Latvian man, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following the death of Keaton Slater in Coventry on 14 June 2024. Aleksanders was extradited from Latvia, where he was detained last month, and arrived in the UK on Wednesday via Gatwick Airport. West Midlands Police said he was taken into custody upon arrival and is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Keaton, aged 12, died after being struck by a black BMW whilst on his way home from school. Aleksanders was named by police as a person of interest shortly after the incident, and extradition efforts began immediately thereafter. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that British and Latvian authorities, alongside international agencies, had worked together to secure his return to face proceedings in a UK court.

The case represents the conclusion of extradition proceedings that have spanned more than two years since the schoolboy's death. Aleksanders will now face the UK criminal justice system, with his first court appearance scheduled for Thursday. The development follows sustained efforts by police and prosecutors to bring the matter before British courts.
