TRENT MCDUFFIE SAYS CHIEFS TRADED HIM WITHOUT WARNING
Trent McDuffie learned of his trade from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Los Angeles Rams through a notification rather than direct communication from the club, the former cornerback stated on the Bussin' With The Boys podcast. McDuffie said he discovered the trade during a workout session whilst preparing for what he believed would be another season in Kansas City. "You didn't let me know anything. I didn't have any conversation about nothing. It was just like, bye," McDuffie said. He described feeling angry about the decision, though the emotion subsided after speaking with Rams head coach Sean McVay and defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake.
The Chiefs traded McDuffie in exchange for four draft picks: the 29th overall selection in the 2026 draft, plus fifth and sixth-round picks in 2026 and a third-round choice in 2027. McDuffie was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Chiefs were reported to have entered the offseason more than £57 million over the salary cap. The Rams signed McDuffie to a four-year extension immediately following the trade. During his four seasons in Kansas City, McDuffie recorded 286 combined tackles, three interceptions and 47 passes defended across the regular season and postseason, alongside nine forced fumbles and 5.5 sacks.
McDuffie won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs and earned First-Team All-Pro recognition in 2023 and Second-Team All-Pro status the following year. Jimmy Lake, the Rams' defensive backs coach, had previously coached McDuffie at the University of Washington, which McDuffie identified as a factor in his acceptance of the move.
