AFGHAN BOXER CHARGED OVER DEATH OF SCOTTISH WOMAN IN ATHENS
Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish woman, was found dead in a suitcase inside a derelict building in Athens on 18 July. Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old Afghan boxer, has been charged with manslaughter, robbery and violation of weapons laws in connection with the death. According to local reports, Ahmadzai allegedly confessed to the crime after being identified through video footage. Police allege that a replica pistol and knife were found at his home.
Following the alleged killing, Ahmadzai is accused of sending messages from Ms Ross's phone and subsequently using a burner phone to impersonate a jihadist, claiming he killed her due to her Christian faith, local newspapers reported. Police further allege that he placed Ms Ross's body in a suitcase, transported it to the abandoned site and used her bank card to withdraw money. The circumstances and motive for the killing remain under investigation.
The case has drawn significant media attention in Britain and Greece. Ahmadzai remains in custody pending trial on the charges brought against him. Greek authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding Ms Ross's death.
