GARY GLITTER CHARGED WITH HISTORICAL SEXUAL OFFENCES

Paul Gadd, known professionally as Gary Glitter, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with historical sexual offences. The 82-year-old faces one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. Prosecutors allege the offences occurred between 1978 and 1981 at Gadd's home in Kensington and Chelsea, west London, when the complainant was aged between eight and 11. Gadd was remanded into custody.

According to prosecutors, Gadd would give the girl chocolate and invite her into his house, where he then committed a number of serious sexual offences. The alleged conduct took place over a three-year period during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The charges represent new allegations against the former pop star, separate from previous convictions.

Gadd is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on 2 September. The case will proceed through the Crown Court at that hearing. No plea was entered at the magistrates' court appearance.
