B&Q RECALLS TABLE FAN OVER FIRE AND ELECTRIC SHOCK RISK
B&Q has recalled a nine-inch table fan sold between March and July 2026 following identification of a potential safety fault. The retailer has asked customers to stop using the White 9 Inch Table Fan immediately and return it to their nearest store for a refund. The Office for Product Safety and Standards, the UK's national regulator for consumer products, classified the risk as medium. The fault affects units manufactured by Kingfisher International Products Limited in China.
According to B&Q and the regulator, an electrical component within the fan may overheat, creating a fire risk. The Office for Product Safety and Standards stated that a fault in the oscillation mechanism can damage internal wiring, presenting a risk of electric shock. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The recall notice identified specific batch numbers affected: 25W50, 26W05 and 26W11.
The recall was issued on 4 August 2026 as England and Wales experienced extended hot weather, during which demand for cooling appliances increased. The Office for Product Safety and Standards urged affected customers to cease use of the fan and return it to B&Q, and to share the warning with others who may own the product. Those with questions have been advised to contact B&Q customer services or visit their local store.
