FLORIDA STATE QB MARSHALL SIDELINED WITH MINOR INJURY

WED 05 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Florida State quarterback Malachi Marshall sat out the Seminoles' first live scrimmage at Doak Campbell Stadium on Tuesday after suffering a minor injury. Head coach Mike Norvell described the injury as slight and indicated Marshall should return to full action the following week. Marshall watched from the sideline in street clothes whilst other players progressed toward the season opener.

Marshall, a junior college transfer, arrived in Tallahassee later than other transfer recruits and was already working behind schedule in fall camp. The 6'2 quarterback recorded 2,750 passing yards and 33 touchdowns during his final junior college season at Iowa Western, leading the team to a 12-1 record and an NJCAA Division I national championship. He previously spent two seasons at Stony Brook before transferring to Florida State.

Missing the first live scrimmage cost Marshall valuable practice repetitions at a critical point in the season. Live scrimmages provide quarterbacks with opportunities to develop split-second decision-making under pressure, experience that cannot be replicated in classroom settings. Whilst Marshall recovered, sophomore Kevin Sperry continued accumulating repetitions in the quarterback rotation.
