TWO 14-YEAR-OLDS ARRESTED OVER BIKE ROBBERIES IN LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE
A second 14-year-old boy has been arrested following robberies of bicycles in Liverpool city centre on 23 July. At approximately 3.30pm that day, two schoolboys approached two other boys, aged 12 and 13, near Liverpool Playhouse theatre on Williamson Square and demanded they hand over their Giant-branded bikes. The boys made threats before taking the bicycles and leaving the scene. A 14-year-old from Huyton was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of robbery.
On 5 August, Merseyside Police confirmed the Huyton boy had pleaded guilty to both offences. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Liverpool Youth Court on 25 August. A second 14-year-old, from Liverpool, was arrested on the evening of 4 August on suspicion of robbery and attempted robbery. The boy remains in custody at a Merseyside police station pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said robberies "can be a frightening experience that has a lasting impact on victims" and stated that police take such reports "extremely seriously". Merseyside Police has urged members of the public to report any crime in Liverpool city centre via its social media accounts, website, or by telephoning 101.
