NOVO NORDISK RAISES FULL-YEAR OUTLOOK DESPITE PIPELINE CONCERNS

WED 05 AUG 2026 MARKETS

Novo Nordisk raised its full-year guidance on Tuesday, now expecting adjusted sales and operating profit to decline between 6% and flat at constant exchange rates. The revision improves on previous guidance that projected a decline of between 4% and 12%. Analysts attributed the better-than-expected quarterly results partly to rebate adjustments and other temporary factors rather than underlying business strength. Obesity drug sales met expectations overall, though oral Wegovy slightly underperformed forecasts.

The Danish pharmaceutical company disclosed mixed results for CagriSema, its next-generation weight-loss drug, renewing investor concerns about its longer-term product pipeline. Analysts from multiple firms expressed limited enthusiasm about the company's prospects, with one stating the results offered "nothing to inspire" confidence. Competition from Eli Lilly in the obesity and diabetes drug market continues to intensify, with Eli Lilly's share price outperforming Novo Nordisk's American depositary receipts over the past 12 months. The guidance increase left little room for consensus sales estimates to move materially higher, according to analysts.

Novo Nordisk is attempting to restore investor confidence in its pipeline development and execution capability, particularly in the challenging United States market. The company has now raised its forecast twice during the current year. Wall Street's principal concern remains whether the manufacturer of Ozempic possesses a sustainable path to growth as competition in the sector sharpens.
