MANCHESTER UNITED NAME EVA OLID AS WOMEN'S MANAGER
Manchester United are set to appoint Eva Olid as women's manager, BBC Sport understands. The Spaniard will meet the United squad on Wednesday to finalise her appointment. Olid replaces Marc Skinner, who left the role by mutual consent on Monday, a month before the Women's Super League season begins. The appointment comes after United changed their recruitment strategy to focus on younger players for long-term development.
Olid, 40, joined Hearts in 2021 and guided the Scottish club to their first league title last season. She also took Hearts to their first domestic cup final, though they lost to Rangers in the 2024 Scottish Cup. Olid left Hearts this summer following a mutual agreement announced in April. Sources at United stated that a key requirement for Skinner's successor was a coach with experience developing players, a criterion Olid's track record at Hearts appears to satisfy.
Skinner departed after five years with United, having won the Women's FA Cup in 2024 and guided the club to the Women's Champions League group stage for the first time. He raised concerns about insufficient investment in the squad during a quiet summer transfer window. United finished runners-up in three domestic cup finals under Skinner. Manchester United begin their WSL campaign at London City Lionesses on 4 September.
