ED SHEERAN FINED FOR UNINSURED ASTON MARTIN IN RESTORATION

TUE 04 AUG 2026 CRIME

Ed Sheeran has been fined £666 by Bradford Magistrates' Court after his 1966 Aston Martin was found to be uninsured whilst undergoing restoration and conversion to an electric vehicle. The DVLA identified the lack of insurance on 17 December. The car had been held at Aston Workshop Ltd since 2021 and was not operational or on public roads at the time. Sheeran was convicted of keeping a motor vehicle which does not meet insurance requirements and ordered to pay £100 in costs and a £266 victim surcharge.

Sheeran submitted a letter to the court stating he genuinely believed the workshop's comprehensive insurance policies covered the vehicle. He also stated he never received an initial out-of-court fine offer. The case was handled via the Single Justice Procedure on Friday 31 July. According to official figures, Sheeran was among 1,451 people convicted the previous week for similar offences across England and Wales.

The conviction marks a routine application of motor insurance law. No further action or appeal has been reported. Sheeran has not operated the vehicle since handing it to the workshop for restoration work.
