SERENA AND VENUS WILLIAMS REUNITE FOR CINCINNATI DOUBLES
Serena and Venus Williams have been awarded wildcards into the women's doubles draw at the Cincinnati Open, marking their first competitive match together since the 2022 US Open. The tournament confirmed the pairing on its official X account. The sisters were previously scheduled to play doubles at Wimbledon but withdrew after Serena sustained a knee injury days before their match was due to take place. Serena posted on Instagram at the time that playing alongside Venus meant everything to her, but her knee was not ready to compete.
Serena's comeback began at the HSBC Championships in London, where she partnered with Victoria Mboko and defeated Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez 7–6, 6–2. Mboko withdrew the following day with a knee injury. Serena subsequently played with Karolina Muchova in Berlin but the pair lost in the first round to Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos. Venus has also received a singles wildcard for Cincinnati, her ninth singles tournament this season, with no tournament victories recorded to date. Her most recent matches show a losing streak spanning over a year. Together, the Williams sisters have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals during their partnership.
Cincinnati will be Serena's third doubles pairing since her comeback began and her first with Venus. The tournament represents an opportunity for the sisters to continue rebuilding their partnership after injuries prevented them from competing together at Wimbledon.
