NOTRE DAME AND USC AGREE TO RENEW RIVALRY FROM 2030
Notre Dame and USC have agreed to resume their American college football rivalry beginning in 2030, after a hiatus of several years. The two universities have committed to a four-year home-and-home arrangement, with games scheduled for 2030, 2031, 2032 and 2033. The agreement requires both programmes to negotiate further if they wish to continue the fixture beyond 2033.
The 2030 contest will be played at the L.A. Coliseum in Week 1 of the college football season, followed by the 2031 game at Notre Dame's home ground in South Bend during the same week. The 2032 and 2033 fixtures will be scheduled between Week 1 and Week 3. The rivals' disagreement over scheduling had previously prevented renewal of the fixture; USC had sought to move the game earlier in the season, whilst Notre Dame resisted that change.
The renewal marks the resumption of one of American college football's established rivalries, which first began one century before 2030. The fixture had lapsed as conferences expanded and altered their schedules in recent years. According to reports, both programmes view the restoration of the rivalry as significant to college football tradition, though they will need to reach a new agreement if they wish to continue playing after 2033.
