DALLAS WINGS DEFEAT CONNECTICUT SUN IN WNBA GAME
The Dallas Wings defeated the Connecticut Sun in a Women's National Basketball Association game, with the Wings establishing a dominant lead by the third quarter. Paige Bueckers, a Wings guard, scored six points across 25 minutes of play. Jessica Shepard and Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas in scoring with 15 points each, whilst Azzi Fudd added 12 points including four three-pointers. The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the Wings.
Late in the contest, with five minutes remaining and Dallas holding a substantial lead, Connecticut forward Diamond Miller made a corner three-pointer and then spoke to the Wings bench, prompting Bueckers and several other Dallas players to laugh. The interaction was captured on broadcast but audio of what Miller said was not picked up. Bueckers and Miller were teammates on the United States squad that won gold at the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup, defeating Australia 74-70 in the final, and briefly played together in Dallas the previous season.
The Wings turned a nine-point advantage into a 72-45 lead through a 20-2 run in the third quarter. Connecticut scored only eight points whilst shooting 3-15 from the field during that stretch and failed to recover subsequently. Brittney Griner, Connecticut's leading scorer, missed the game with a knee injury, having sat out the previous three contests.
