FRENCH BOY DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL AFTER TATE MODERN FALL
A French child who was thrown from a viewing balcony at the Tate Modern art gallery in London has been discharged from hospital nearly seven years after the incident. The boy, then six years old, fell approximately 100 feet from the 10th floor on 4 August 2019 after being thrown by Jonty Bravery. He sustained life-changing injuries including a bleed on the brain and multiple broken bones, but survived the fall. His family reported via a GoFundMe fundraising page that he has since returned to school and is continuing rehabilitation.
The child was on holiday in London with his parents when the attack occurred. His family stated that his hospital stay was kept as short as possible, as he had become deeply disheartened during his treatment and repeatedly asked when he could return to school and see his friends. The boy continues to undergo intensive rehabilitation including physiotherapy, speech therapy and neuropsychology. In April this year, his family had reported that his recovery had taken "a sad step backwards", but the latest update described a more positive development, with the child smiling after returning to school briefly before the summer holidays.
The GoFundMe page was established by nurse Vicky Diplacto from Surrey and has raised more than £500,000 to cover medical costs for the family. To mark the end of his hospital treatment, the family plan a tandem paragliding flight and a seaside trip with friends. The boy also intends to resume adaptive swimming lessons and receive maths tutoring to catch up on missed schoolwork during the summer.
