COVENTRY CITY SIGN GOALKEEPER JACK RUDDY FROM NORWICH

MON 03 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Coventry City have signed 18-year-old goalkeeper Jack Ruddy from Norwich City ahead of their first Premier League season since 2000/01. Ruddy, son of former England international John Ruddy, completed the move this summer and will play for Coventry's under-21 side in the 2026/27 campaign. Jack has represented Wales at youth level, appearing twice for their under-16 team. His mother, Laura, posted on social media following the transfer, writing: "So proud of Jack for signing with Coventry City. The last five years haven't always been easy, but you've never stopped working hard or believing in yourself. Seeing you smiling and enjoying your football again means everything."

Frank Lampard's Coventry won the Championship last season, securing promotion to the Premier League for the first time in over two decades. The signing of Ruddy forms part of a busy summer transfer window for the newly promoted club. Coventry have also signed Loum Tchaouna from Burnley, Aurèle Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Frank Onyeka from Brentford. The club are also set to break their transfer record to sign Carl Rushworth following a successful loan spell. Lampard and John Ruddy played alongside each other for England on one occasion.

Jack Ruddy follows his father into goalkeeping, taking on a development role as Coventry prepare for the competitive demands of top-flight football. Newly promoted sides typically require significant investment to remain competitive in the Premier League, with teams that fail to strengthen adequately often facing immediate relegation.
