NEAL SHIPLEY TOPS SPRINGFIELD QUALIFIER TO REACH 2026 US OPEN
Neal Shipley claimed first place at the United States Open qualifying event held at Springfield Country Club in Ohio, securing his place in the 2026 US Open at Shinnecock Hills. Shipley posted a score of eight under par across 36 holes, finishing joint top of the leaderboard alongside Zac Blair. The entire 36-hole qualifier was completed in a single day. Shipley told Golf Channel that he had not had the best year but was pleased to hit meaningful shots under pressure.
The qualifier featured a competitive field that included Billy Horschel, Tony Finau, and Brandt Snedeker. Shipley needed to finish in the top five to earn his place at Shinnecock Hills. His form on the PGA Tour this season had been difficult, with the golfer making only three cuts from 13 starts. Shipley studied at Ohio State University, situated approximately 50 miles from Springfield Country Club.
The 2026 US Open is scheduled to take place at Shinnecock Hills. Shipley's qualification comes after a qualifying process that ran to the final hole at Springfield. Several other players from the Ohio qualifier also secured places in the US Open field alongside Shipley and Blair. J.T. Poston also booked his place in the 2026 US Open field by winning the Memorial Tournament, avoiding the 36-hole qualifying process entirely.
