STEPHEN BALDWIN SAYS FAITH LED HIM AWAY FROM HOLLYWOOD

MON 03 AUG 2026 INTERNATIONAL

Stephen Baldwin, known for his role in the 1995 thriller The Usual Suspects, became a born-again Christian in 2001 and subsequently shifted away from mainstream acting towards faith-based projects. Baldwin stated he held no regrets about this career change, saying he never sought major stardom comparable to that of Tom Cruise. He has spent decades engaged in ministry work, including leading skateboarding youth outreach programmes and conducting evangelistic tours at churches across multiple locations.

Baldwin attributed his disconnection from the entertainment industry partly to disagreements over his public support for Donald Trump during past presidential elections. He also claimed he was dismissed from the 1998 film The Object of My Affection because studio figures deemed him funnier than the film's lead actress Jennifer Aniston. Baldwin described the entertainment industry negatively in recent remarks, framing his departure as driven by his spiritual priorities.

Baldwin's account presents his exit from Hollywood as a deliberate choice rooted in religious conviction rather than professional rejection. He characterised his decades of ministry and faith-based work as fulfilling compared to the pursuit of mainstream celebrity status. No statement from other parties involved in the films or decisions he referenced has been made public.
