BERNIE MORENO CALLS FOR EX-SON-IN-LAW MAX MILLER TO RESIGN FROM CONGRESS

Republican Senator Bernie Moreno publicly called on Sunday for Representative Max Miller to resign from Congress, citing domestic and child abuse allegations made by Moreno's daughter Emily Moreno, Miller's ex-wife. Moreno wrote on social media that if basic standards of character are required for elected office, Miller "fails them" and should not serve in the House of Representatives. Moreno stated that Miller "needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake" and should not be free to continue endangering others until he does so. The senator added that he had hoped the situation would remain private but that Miller's "increasingly erratic and dangerous behaviour has made that impossible".

Emily Moreno has alleged that Miller hit, threatened and threw scalding water on her during their marriage. According to court filings and police reports, the couple's two-year-old daughter sustained a broken collarbone, with Miller and Emily Moreno presenting different explanations for the injury. A spokesperson for Miller provided documentation to The Associated Press stating that several allegations of child abuse had been investigated by the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services and were deemed unsubstantiated. Miller has sued Emily Moreno for defamation. The couple finalised their divorce last year but remain in a protracted custody dispute.

Miller released a livestream on Sunday morning denying all allegations of domestic and child abuse and insisting he would remain in the race for re-election. He stated that no court or agency had ever substantiated any allegation against him and that no criminal charge had been filed. Miller said every allegation had been investigated and that he cooperated fully throughout. The statement came ahead of Wednesday's deadline to replace him on the ballot.
