BO NIX SAYS SURGICALLY REPAIRED ANKLE WON'T LIMIT PLAY

SUN 02 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix stated that his surgically repaired right ankle will not restrict his style of play as the team begins training camp. Nix fractured the ankle during a divisional-round playoff win against the Buffalo Bills in January, an injury compounded by a pre-existing structural joint condition. He underwent two surgical procedures—a major operation following the initial injury and a follow-up arthroscopic surgery in April to remove bone spurs. At Saturday's practice at the team's Englewood, Colorado facility on 2 August, Nix told media he would continue to scramble and move athletically this season.

"Absolutely not," Nix said when asked whether the injury would change his approach. "I'm going to roll out. I'm going to be as athletic as I can be. For me, that's when I feel at my best." Nix recorded 3,931 passing yards and 25 touchdowns across 17 regular season games in 2025, before throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs before his injury sidelined him. His rushing statistics last season included 356 yards and five touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton described Nix's mobility as "one of his superpowers", noting that the quarterback was sacked only 22 times despite 612 pass attempts. Nix missed most of the offseason programme but reported having no limitations in training camp.

Nix stated he would remain "smart" about decision-making whilst playing through contact. "I'm not going to be dumb. I just got to be smart, put us, put me, in a good situation," he said. He added that whilst he would avoid unnecessary hits, critical situations on third and fourth downs would require him to take calculated risks. Nix reported feeling "great" and "normal" with nothing holding him back in practice.
