GREEK POLICE FIND NO FINGERPRINTS ON SUITCASE OF DEAD SCOTTISH WOMAN

SUN 02 AUG 2026 CRIME

Greek police investigating the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a Scottish woman found dead in a suitcase in Athens, have revealed they discovered no fingerprints or DNA on the luggage. Ross, aged 38 and also known as Lisa, was discovered by a homeless man in the Kypseli neighbourhood on 18 July around 1pm. Police said she had vanished on 15 July and had been dead for approximately eight days before discovery. A post-mortem examination is underway and toxicology tests are being fast-tracked to determine cause of death.

Konstantina Dimoglidou, a spokesperson for Greek police, stated that whoever left the suitcase "was careful not to leave fingerprints or DNA". The force has deployed its entire homicide division to the investigation and is in contact with other police forces. Dimoglidou told the BBC that test results could arrive within "the coming days". Police have not yet established the cause of death or confirmed whether the case is being treated as a murder investigation.

According to one report, police have identified a homeless man named Markos as their "prime suspect". Markos was known to frequent the area where Ross's body was found and has not been seen in the neighbourhood since the discovery, according to that account. The same report described him as a drug user and heavy drinker with a reputation for being aggressive, though no charges have been reported.
