BRONER NAMES DAVIS TOP POUND-FOR-POUND FIGHTER AHEAD OF USYK AND INOUE

MON 08 JUN 2026 BOXING

Former world champion Adrien Broner has named Gervonta Davis as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing today. Broner made the claim in an interview with FightHype, placing Davis above Oleksandr Usyk and Naoya Inoue. He stated that Davis possesses qualities other fighters do not, though did not specify what those qualities are. Shakur Stevenson was also among the names Broner passed over in favour of Davis.

Davis last fought in March 2025, when he retained his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach via a draw. During that bout, Roach floored Davis in the ninth round but was not awarded a 10-8 round by the judges. Davis was subsequently removed from a scheduled exhibition match against Jake Paul last November following a series of domestic violence allegations. The WBA responded by downgrading Davis's status to "Champion in recess."

Inoue and Usyk are widely regarded as the leading contenders for the top pound-for-pound position. Inoue successfully defended his super-bantamweight title against Junto Nakatani last month via unanimous decision at a sold-out Tokyo Dome. Usyk also fought last month, facing former kickboxer Rico Verhoeven, though the performance fell short of expectations. Davis has not competed since the Roach contest and currently holds no active WBA champion status.
