MANCHESTER UNITED INTERNALLY APPROVES LEWIS HALL TRANSFER BID

SUN 02 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Manchester United have internally approved a move for Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, according to reports. The club are considering an opening bid worth approximately £60 million for the 21-year-old England international. United view Hall as a potential long-term replacement for left-back Luke Shaw and have made contact with Newcastle to understand the club's position on a potential sale.

Hall remains contracted to Newcastle until 2029, but significant departures from St James' Park may create an opportunity for a move. Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes expected to join Arsenal. Manager Eddie Howe has also left the club. Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester United consider Hall an ideal player for their squad and that he is internally approved at Old Trafford.

Newcastle are expected to resist any approach for Hall, having already completed several high-profile sales. The club's position is to retain the defender rather than allow another departure from their squad. Manchester United's interest in Hall forms part of a broader summer rebuild under Michael Carrick, following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million and Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50 million. The transfer window remains open, with United continuing to monitor additional targets across defence, midfield and attack.
