TOURIST PLANE CRASHES IN PERU, 13 DEAD

SAT 01 AUG 2026

At least 13 people died when a plane carrying tourists crashed into a field in Peru, according to local authorities. The aircraft departed from the city of Ica and was operated by Peruvian company Aerodiana. Nazca's municipal government said the plane was conducting a sightseeing flight over the Nazca Lines, a collection of geoglyphs in the desert near Nazca. Peruvian authorities said the crash remained under investigation. Aerodiana was not immediately available for comment at the time of reporting.

The Nazca Lines are extensive geoglyphs scraped into the desert hundreds of years ago by Peru's Indigenous inhabitants. The lines form images of animals that can only be fully seen from aircraft or viewing towers, making aerial sightseeing flights a common tourist activity in the region. The crash occurred during what was intended to be a routine tourist flight from Ica.

Peruvian authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. No additional details regarding the cause of the incident or the identities of those killed had been confirmed at the time of initial reporting. The investigation is ongoing.
