RYANAIR PASSENGER ARRESTED AFTER TEARING OUT HAIR EXTENSIONS MID-FLIGHT

SAT 01 AUG 2026 CRIME

Caitlin Anderson was arrested at Newcastle Airport after police boarded a Ryanair aircraft on which she had been disruptive to staff and fellow passengers. The 25-year-old customer service administrator tore out her own hair extensions during the flight on 10 July 2026, and became involved in a confrontation with the passenger seated next to her. Cabin crew alerted police before the aircraft landed, and officers took Anderson into custody upon arrival.

Anderson was initially taken to hospital as it was suspected she had consumed a substance that contributed to her behaviour. The court was told she was unsteady on her feet and her conduct was described as "weird". She was subsequently transferred to a police station and appeared before Newcastle Magistrates' Court, where she pleaded guilty to being disruptive on an aircraft. Prosecutor Christopher O'Brien confirmed the flight details to the court. Anderson had one previous offence on her record.

The magistrates imposed a fine of £1,477, an order to pay £85 in costs and a £591 victim surcharge. Her defence representative, Janice Hall, stated that Anderson was "thoroughly embarrassed" and "devastated" by her actions, describing them as "totally out of character". The court heard that Anderson resides in Glasgow.
