PRISONER ESCAPES FROM VAN OUTSIDE LIVERPOOL COURT

A 22-year-old man escaped from a prison van outside Liverpool Magistrates Court on Saturday 1 August at approximately 10am. Stephen Grzyb, of Princess Drive in the West Derby/Dovecot area of Liverpool, was being transported from Belle Vale custody suite to the court by GEOAmey, a prisoner transport contractor, when he fled. He ran down Red Cross Street in the direction of The Strand. Grzyb had been charged with a domestic-related burglary.

Grzyb is described as white with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a navy T-shirt and navy shorts. Merseyside Police confirmed they are carrying out extensive enquiries to locate him, including foot patrols and CCTV enquiries across the city centre. Officers attended the home of the alleged victim in the case to ensure their safety whilst the search continued.

Temporary Inspector Bethan Hannon appealed for public assistance in locating Grzyb, stating it is vital the public can identify him and report any sightings. Members of the public who see Grzyb are advised to call 999 immediately.
